The Merlot was planted by Laurent's father in the 90's, when Bordeaux’s varietals were all the rage. He even pulled out some of the Grenache planted by his own father in the 60's in order to incorporate the Merlot in his vineyard. Upon inheriting the vineyard, Laurent was bothered and didn’t know what to do of this international varietal. However, by harvesting earlier, alongside the Grenache, he now succeeds in finding a distinct freshness and vibrant expression of the fruit, without losing the sense of terroir and the layers of spice so unique to the region. Idoine has a denser, darker body than Otium. Bramble berries and red plums dominate,  and there is an almost silky texture to it. The slightly vegetal notes and touch of garrigue lift the fruit and add to the tonic nature of the wine.
